My beautiful Daisy dog used to provide a sense of calm, comfort and safety in the therapy room. Sadly she passed on and I have noticed how people have asked if they could bring their dog to the session and the wonderful results that unfolded. We found that having them in the room allows a gentleness and an ability to tap into self in a less stressful way. There often is comfort in the gentle presence of an animal and the action of smoothing releases natural calming hormones into the body. People often developed a bond with Daisy and this helped with the trust in the therapeutic relationship. People often describe a feeling of stabilisation in their emotions and find the communication flows with out the feeling of vulnerability in the early part of therapy. So if you have a pet you feel comfortable with sharing your journey.
